Q Where can I purchase IndexU from?

Q I purchased IndexU, where do I download it from?
A You can download IndexU at http://www.nicecoder.com/order/client_login.php.

Q I need support, where can I get it from?
A You can submit a ticket to support at http://www.nicecoder.com/support or you can send an email to support@nicecoder.com.

Q I sent support an email but I didn't receive an answer.
A All emails are converted to tickets automatically. During this process you are sent an email letting you know that we have created a ticket for you. If you did not receive an email back then it is very likely that your email did not reach us and was probably filtered as spam..

Q I am not receiving email responses from support, but I see the responses on the ticket.
A Either your email program or your host is filtering the email as spam. We have no control over that. You need to add nicecoder.com to your whitelist for both your host and your email client.

Q My support (help desk) login doesn"t work!
A The support system is a seperate system from the client area and the forum. If you want an account you must sign up seperately, but signing up is not necessary.

Q What versions of IndexU are supported?
A IndexU Deluxe v1.x is currently fully supported. IndexU v5.4x will be supported until May 1 2009.

Q How do I report a bug I found?
A You can report a bug on the Project Tools.

Q How customizable is IndexU?
A IndexU is extremely customizable. IndexU has been used to make recipe sites, niche directories, affiliate links sites, article sites, coupon sites,


Beta/SVN FAQ

Q Are there beta versions of IndexU available?
A You can download the SVN (beta) version at http://www.nicecoder.com/svn/.

Q Who can access SVN?
A Only current license owners of IndexU Deluxe can access SVN.

Q How do I login to SVN?
A You can find details on how to log into SVN at http://www.nicecoder.com/community/showthread.php?p=27533.

Q Is there support for the SVN version?
A SVN is Beta software. While we will do our best to help you, you must understand that beta software is not intended to be run on a production site.

Q How do I report a bug I found in the SVN version?
A You can report any bugs found on the Project Tools.

Q What is the point of SVN?
A The point of SVN is to have a current version with all known fixes in it. However some of the fixes and changes are considered beta and are unsupported. The SVN version will also show users what to expect in the next release.


Categories FAQ

Q I added categories but they're not working properly, why?
A You need to run Update Category Paths in the admin panel.

Q In add.php the categories are out of order, why?
A You have categories set to Not Allowed (invisible), set them to Not Allowed (Visable) to fix this issue.

Q How can I set all categories to Require Editors Permission
A Go to Admin Panel - Database - Find Replace and do the following
Select Table idx_category
Select permission
Find what 0
Replace with 1
Click on Replace

Q How can I set the pricing for all my categories at once?
A In the admin panel go to Set Default Price and you can enter a pricing here. You can choose to override all current prices or not.

Q I have a problem with my categories that I can't figure out?
A Click on Check Category Structure in the admin panel. If there is a problem it will tell you where it is.

Common Errors FAQ

Q I get Error 500 when I view my site
A 500 Errors can be caused by not being allowed to use .htaccess files. Try deleting the .htaccess in root, /admin_tpl/ and /themes/.

Q I get the error Call to undefined function: addfilter()
A You did not run the /install/install.php script to install the program.

Q The site seems to work, but I see a lot of PHP warnings (v 5.4x)
A Add the following to application.php and /admin_tpl/application.cfg.php error_reporting(E_ALL ^ E_NOTICE);

Q I get the error Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mb_detect_encoding()
A Your server does not have PHP compiled with mbstring. This is a requirement for IndexU and is nearly standard on most PHP installations. You need to talk to your host to get this fixed.

Q I have a lot of HTML errors with links that have & in it, why?
A Make sure you use & instead of &


Database FAQ

Q I tried to upload a database and it says it's done but nothing is there, why?
A This has to do with your host, and not IndexU. Most hosts only allow a maximum of a 2MB file to be uploaded with PHP. For most IndexU databases this works out to about 2000 lines of data. Split the database up into smaller pieces or ask your host to increase your post_max_size in php.ini.

Q How do I import a database?
A Go to the admin panel - Database - Import. Select the type of import and click Import.

Q Can I export my database?
A Go to the admin panel - Database - Export. Now click on what you would like to export.

NOTE - This is NOT a method of backup.

Q How can I backup my database from the admin panel?
A Go to the admin panel - Database - Backup. Choose a filename and click Create New Backup File.

Q I found some MySQL commands on the forum or the internet, how can I run them?
A First make 100% sure that you know exactly what the query does. If you don't know exactly what the command does then do NOT run it. You can easily break or delete your entire database and there is NO undo function.

To run the command go to the admin panel - Database - Query.

Q How can I find and replace something in the database?
A Go to the admin panel - Database - Find/Query. Select the Table and Field you want to find/replace in. Then select the text to find and replace. Note that this interface will not find blank entries or replace entries with blank data.


Invoices FAQ

Q How do I enable or disable the payment methods?
A To enable or disable the payment methods go to the admin panel - Invoices - Configure and click Configure beside the payment method you want to modify.

Near the top of the file you will see $enable.

1 means this payment method is enabled, 0 means it is disabled. Do not remove the quotes.


License FAQ

Q I cannot access my downloads, how can I fix that?
A You can send a ticket to tech support.

Q I upgraded to Deluxe, now my site says the license is invalid?
A If you upgraded from 5.x to Deluxe then your old license was suspended. Log into the client area and add your new key to the key.php file.

Q Can I sell or transfer my license?
A Yes you can, please see this post on our forum for more information.

Q Will my Deluxe License work for 5.x?
A Yes it will.

Q Will my 5.x license work for Deluxe?
A No it will not.

Q I have an IndexU Deluxe license, do I need to pay for copyright removal?
A All Deluxe license owners must pay for copyright removal.

Q I have an IndexU v5.x license, do I need to pay for copyright removal?
A "v5.x license owners must pay for copyright removal unless their license was purchased before Nov 2007.

Q Can I buy a new license for v5.4x?
A No, v5.4x is no longer sold. You may buy a deluxe license and then downgrade to v5.4x which is available in SVN.

Q How much does it cost to renew my Deluxe license?
A Renewal fees are $30 per license per year up to a maximum of $99 per year.

Q What do I get for my renewal fee?
A Your renewal fee gets you access to updates for one year.

Q So if I do not renew does my license expire?
A No, you simply do not have access to download any updates.

Q Where do I get my license from?
A Go to the client area then click on view beside the product and then click on View & Download.


Links FAQ

Q What are the differences between Basic, Premium and Sponsored links?
A A link that has not been upgraded or paid for is a Basic link.

The premium links have the title PREMIUM beside them and appear on top of the category links. The background colour of the title text a darker shade.

The sponsored links have the title SPONSORED beside them and appear on top of the premium links. The titles are also coloured differently than any of the other titles on the page in a brighter colour.

Note that you can charge for basic links, but by default a basic link in IndexU is free.

Q Where can I change the email address that emails are sent from?
A Go to the admin panel - Option - Setup. Find the line that says Official/Admin Email, change the email address and click Change Application Setting.

Q How can I add a yearly payment instead of 30, 60 or 90 days?
A Go to the admin panel - Option - Setup. Find the line that says Paid link day periods add ,365. Now in Paid link price factor add a price factor here, I suggest using 8 to start with.

Q Why doesn"t "Search on the web" work?
A You need to enter your Yahoo Web API key in Option - Setup for this to work.

Q Where can I get a SOAP Search API key? (v5.4x)
A Google stopped giving these keys out. IndexU Deluxe uses the Yahoo Web API instead.

Q Where can I change the pagerank cache?
A Go to the admin panel - Option - Setup. Find Pagerank Cache and change the number there.

WARNING - Changing this value to a low number may get you banned from Google! I suggest you do not use a number less than 30 here.

Q How can I delete the cache files?
A Go to the admin panel - Option - Page Caching. Click on Delete Cache Files.

Q How can I delete the template cache files?
A Go to the admin panel - Tools. Click on Clear Template Cache.

Q How can I enable, disable or change mod_rewrite?
A Go to the admin panel - Option - Mod-rewrite. You can enable or disable it here.

NOTE - your .htaccess file must have the proper file permissions for mod_rewrite to work. CHMOD .htaccess to 666 or 777. If you run phpsuexec CHMOD .htaccess to 755.

Q How can I change the password for the admin panel?
A Go to the admin panel - Option - Change Password. Enter your old password and then your new password twice and click Change Password.

Q In Options - mod_rewrite the lines are blank, what do I do?
A You either did not upload the .htaccess file, you deleted all the information from it or it is not readable by the system. Upload the copy from the zip file that IndexU is packaged in and CHMOD the file to 666 or 777. If you run phpsuexec CHMOD .htaccess to 755.

Templates FAQ

Q Where do I get the free templates from?
A They can be downloaded from the client area

Q Where can I purchase some premium templates for IndexU?
A You can purchase premium templates from IndexuTemplates.com and from Indexuthemes.com.

Q I changed my template and now I get a main.css error, why?
A Whenever you change your templates you MUST go to admin - Clear Template Cache. The only template that uses main.css is Kosmos. The reason you see the error is because the template cache is looking for main.css and it is not needed.


Translation Issues

Q My translation does not work in IndexU Deluxe, why?
A Please read the individual questions below to find your exact answer.

Q What are the requirements for translated files to work with IndexU Deluxe?
A You must have the following.
IndexU must be set to use UTF-8
Your database must be using UTF-8
PHP must be compiled with gettext
And you need a translation file (included with IndexU).

Q I see question marks instead of characters, why?
A This likely means that your version of PHP has not been compiled with gettext. Speak to your host about this issue..

Q I only see garbled text, how come?
A This is likely due to one of two reasons. The first is that you changed IndexU from UTF-8 to a local character code (ISO CODE). Simply go to admin - setup and change IndexU to use UTF-8. The second issue is that your database may not be using UTF-8 for it's character set. Talk to your host about converting the database over to use UTF-8.

Q IndexU includes gettext emulation, why do I need PHP compiled with gettext?
A Since it is gettext emulation it is not perfect. Where the emulation fails is on some double byte characters. Making sure you compile PHP with gettext will solve these issues completely and your site will work perfectly afterwards.

Q Why won't you help me, my translation isn't working?
A When you install IndexU it is ready to use the translated files right away. It is your server that is not ready to use them. We have no control over your server so in order for the translation to work properly you must meet the requirements above.


Tools FAQ

Q What is the bad words filter for?
A The bad words filter is a spam filter. Any links submitted with these words will be sent to Spam Links area.

NOTE - This does not filter existing listings, only new submissions.

Q How can I edit the language file?
A IndexU Deluxe uses a new method of translations using a system called gettext. The language files are compiled files and not simply text files any longer. This is the same system that WordPress uses. You can find out more information here.

Q What good is the search log?
A The search log tells you what items are being searched for the most. If you find things that get searched more than others then you can target those searches with ads or even try and sell premium or sponsored ads.

Q Why is my CheckUrl Result page empty?
A This is empty because you did not run Spider Link CheckUrl yet.
